Surrogate Qualifications

Becoming a surrogate is a generous and life-changing commitment. To ensure the health and well-being of both the surrogate and the baby, there are specific qualifications that must be met. These criteria help create a safe and positive experience for everyone involved in the surrogacy journey.

While many women may want to become Surrogates, there are necessary qualifications to ensure the highest likelihood of success in this process. Please review the below to ensure you qualify to become a Surrogate with Shining Light Baby.

 

  • Age 21 – 41 (exceptions made per case for Surrogates over 41)
  • Maximum of 3 c-sections
  • Have carried a full-term pregnancy/delivery
  • Raising own child/children
  • Five pregnancies maximum (exceptions made per case)
  • Healthy pregnancy history
  • No more than two miscarriages; with any miscarriage situation we will need medical information
  • Healthy overall
  • Able to provide physician contact which will allow us to obtain your pregnancy and delivery records, records from your primary care physician, and any specialists if applicable.
  • Willing to sign medical release waiver with SLB so we may obtain necessary medical records.
  • No sexually transmitted diseases that would cause harm to yourself or the baby(ies) you will be carrying
  • No tattoos or piercings within the last 12 months
  • United States Citizen
  • Have not traveled in the last 6 months to any countries outside of the U.S. with high-risk Zika zones.
  • Not on any government assistance
  • High School education minimum
  • Mentally stable (no psychotic illness in history or presently)
  • The living situation is stable
  • Have the support of spouse or partner*
  • Spouse/partner does not have past or present psychotic illness*
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Willing to take injectable medications
  • Willing to commit to the required medical appointments, including pre and post-embryo transfer and throughout the pregnancy.
  • Will not smoke, vape, or use any illegal drugs during this process
  • Will not ingest marijuana during this process, even if legal in your state
  • Will refrain from alcohol throughout the pregnancy
  • Will keep caffeine intake to a minimum throughout the medication protocol and pregnancy
  • You enjoy pregnancy and you are primarily motivated by the desire to help Intended Parents create or add to their family.
