This comprehensive timeline provides a general estimate for the entire surrogacy process, from the initial consultation to the birth of your child. Individual circumstances can affect the total duration, but this guide gives you a clear understanding of what to expect on your surrogacy journey with Shining Light Baby.

Initial Consultation

Book your one-on-one meeting with your Shining Light Baby Journey Coordinator. During this meeting, we will discuss your surrogacy goals, answer any questions you may have, and outline the next steps in the process. You will complete the necessary paperwork and submit your agency retainer of $13,500, which will officially start your journey with us.

Matching Process

6-12 months

Work with our matching team to find the perfect candidate for you. We take great care in matching you with a surrogate who shares your values and expectations. The matching time can vary based on your specific criteria and preferences. Once a match is found, you will have the opportunity to meet and get to know your surrogate to ensure a strong and supportive relationship.

Escrow Account Setup

Open your escrow account and fund it with an initial deposit of $10,000. This account will be used to manage all financial transactions related to the surrogacy process, ensuring that funds are handled securely and transparently. During this time, we will also schedule your new surrogate’s medical screening appointment at your chosen fertility clinic, based on availability.

Legal Agreements

4-6 weeks

Start the legal agreement process with your chosen attorney. The legal agreement is a critical component that outlines the rights and responsibilities of both parties. This process typically takes about one month to complete. Upon completion, full compensation is due to the escrow account. Our team will assist you in understanding and finalizing these agreements to protect all parties involved.

Medication and Monitoring

4-6 weeks

Your surrogate will begin the medication protocol in preparation for the embryo transfer. This stage includes regular monitoring appointments to ensure that her body is responding well to the medications. Your case manager will help schedule at least three monitoring appointments for your surrogate to track progress and make any necessary adjustments.

Embryo Transfer

Embryo transfer time! Your surrogate will travel to the fertility clinic for the transfer procedure. This is a significant milestone, and you may attend this appointment as well if you’d like. The transfer involves placing the embryo(s) into the surrogate’s uterus with the goal of achieving a successful pregnancy.

Pregnancy Confirmation

10 days after Embryo Transfer

Approximately 10 days following the embryo transfer, your surrogate will have her first pregnancy lab test to confirm the pregnancy. This is an exciting and hopeful time, as you await the initial confirmation of the pregnancy.

Heartbeat Confirmation

Around 8-10 weeks gestation, a heartbeat confirmation ultrasound will be performed. This milestone indicates that the pregnancy is progressing well. Once the heartbeat is confirmed, your surrogate will graduate from the fertility clinic’s care and transition to her chosen provider for ongoing prenatal care.

First Trimester Planning

During the first trimester (12 weeks), you will begin working on important preparations such as securing newborn insurance and finalizing the parentage agreement. This stage involves planning for the baby’s arrival and ensuring that all legal and logistical details are in place.

Second and Third Trimesters Planning

As the pregnancy progresses through the second and third trimesters (13-40 weeks), you will continue to work on the parentage agreement and finalize your birth plan. This includes making arrangements for the delivery and preparing for the arrival of your baby. Regular communication with your surrogate will ensure that everything is on track.

Delivery and Post-Birth

The moment you’ve been waiting for has arrived! Your new bundle of joy is here. The delivery marks the end of the surrogacy process, and we will assist you in navigating the immediate post-birth period, which includes obtaining necessary legal documents and ensuring a smooth transition for you and your baby.
